“Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1: 2-4 CSB
Watching a hummingbird sip the nectar from a lone rose that survived over 100 mile-per-hour winds and observing newly woven spider webs where they are usually found between our bushes are both reminders that when we endure the storms of life, they will evolve into new normalcy. The physical, emotional, and spiritual landscape of our lives often changes. Yet, God, through the Holy Spirit, asks us to walk by faith and endure during these seasons of challenges and adjustments.
In James 1:3, we are encouraged to endure through our trials to “mature us in the faith and make us complete.” Will we like what is happening? Will we be excited to face the next setback? Probably not. Yet, we can look back on past trials in our journey as believers in Christ and know God was faithful to us then and will be now. We can even point to some growth we experienced in our faith walk due to those events. We can trust God will mature us in new ways as we walk through our current trial.
So, how are we handling the latest trial God has allowed to enter our lives? Are we clinging to the truths of God’s Word or running from them? Are we staying connected with fellow sojourners in the faith? Are we guarding our time with God to know His presence with us? Let’s surrender our worries to God in prayer. Above all, let us endure in faith until a new normalcy returns.
